1. WHAT DO YOU WRITE? (YOUR ALIAS) …AND WHY?

i write Sight, Sightzilla, Sighter, Sighterman, Sightsta, Sightstar, Zilla, and Sancho.

2. WHAT CREWS DO YOU REP (IF ANY)?

i rep upn, cts, rtdk, rtn, cma, rth, tbu, acid boys, soul kings, and Zillas

3. HOW LONG YOU’VE BEEN WRITING/TAGGING/PAINTING/DOING ART?

I started writing at the end of 1999 and have been drawing since I was a little kid.

4. WHERE DID YOU GROW UP, AND HOW DID GRAFFITI BECOME A PART OF YOUR LIFE?

I grew up in South Central Los Angeles, and graffiti became a part of my life when I was introduced to hip-hop. I started out break dancing, yet I felt graffiti was a healthier outlet for my trauma.

5. WHO/WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION AND MOTIVATION?

My biggest inspiration has been writers by the names of Serch, Gkae, and Cope2. My motivation comes from the liberation I get every time I catch a tag, throwie, and or piece.

6. HOW HAS BEING IN GRAFFITI CULTURE CHANGED YOUR LIFE?

Graffiti changed my life in many ways. I learned to accept and embrace my individuality. Graffiti has helped me to unplug from the matrix and how to be conscious of the glitches. The biggest change was the healing it provided that no doctor or drug could cure or remedy.

7. WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE MEDIUM TO PAINT ON? THE STREETS, IN THE STUDIO, ETC.

My favorite medium to paint on is money. Any currency honestly to remind me and people that it is just paper that we attached to. Besides that, any walls that are illegal to write on.

8. WHERE WOULD YOU BE IN LIFE RIGHT NOW IF YOU NEVER PICKED UP A PAINTBRUSH/MARKER/SPRAY CAN?

A token patriarchal male blinded by the American norms and chasing liberation that will never be financed.

9. ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO SAY?

Graffiti is its own community that is only for us. Graffiti should not be legal, and it is not for your consumption. Graffiti is a quiet riot and are love letters to show that we existed and what we stood for. Graffiti is magic and will turn you into a monster, a god, or your own worst enemy. Graffiti is the philosopher’s stone, the in-between of every duality that exists.

TLDR; South Central LA graffiti writer SIGHT shares his story of healing through graffiti, repping crews like RTH and UPN since ’99. Influenced by Serch, Gkae, and Cope2, SIGHT uses walls, currency, and illegal spots as his canvas. He calls graffiti a sacred act of resistance and self-liberation—not meant for consumption, but for legacy.
